Ranch & Ag Division

This is where we started.

J4 Fencing & Services builds high-game fence, cattle and cross-fence, custom entry gates, exotic breeder pens, hunting operations, handling facilities, and land clearing across Texas ranch country. The Strack family has been in fence since 1994. The crews you hire today come out of that history. Ranch work runs nationwide for qualified projects.

Frequently Asked

Ranch questions, straight answers.

What is the difference between high-game fence and cattle fence?

Cattle fence is typically a 4 to 5 foot net wire or barbed-wire fence built to hold cattle in and casual wildlife out. High-game fence is an 8 to 10 foot fence built to contain whitetail, fallow, axis, sika, mouflon, or other deer-class wildlife inside the property and predators outside. High-game fence uses heavier corner systems, taller stays, and our own no-weld Pro Fencer Bracing System because the loads and the wildlife are different. We manufacture those braces in-house and run them on Texas ranch lines.

How tall does a high-game fence need to be for whitetail?

Eight feet is the working standard for whitetail and most deer-class species in Texas. Some exotic operations, particularly with axis or sika, run 10-foot fence in select sections. Corner systems, brace assemblies, and stay spacing matter as much as height — a poorly braced 10-foot fence holds less than a properly built 8-foot fence.

Does J4 Fencing build to Texas ag-exemption standards?

Yes. Ag-exemption requirements vary by county appraisal district, but the underlying expectation is fence and infrastructure built and maintained for legitimate agricultural use. J4 Fencing has worked with landowners and ag-exemption applications across the Texas counties we serve. We build to the spec required for active ag use.

What custom gate options does J4 Fencing build?

Single drive-through, double drive-through, walk-through, ranch entry with stone or stucco columns, electric and automated gates, ornamental panels, ranch-brand and ranch-name signage, and barbed-wire-topped security gates. Materials range from galvanized steel to powder-coated ornamental to custom welded designs.

Can J4 Fencing build exotic breeder pens?

Yes. Breeder pen builds for whitetail, fallow, axis, and other exotic operations including shade cloth pens, hospital pens, sorting pens, and full handling-facility integration. We have built for zoos and certified breeder operations across Texas. We also work with wildlife biologists who can consult on best use for your property.

Where does J4 Fencing's Ranch Division work?

Statewide across Texas and nationwide for qualified projects. We are headquartered in El Campo, Texas, but the Ranch Division builds wherever the job is. Most of our high-game and ranch fence work runs well outside the home counties. The crews and equipment travel.
